MP3: PVT (formerly Pivot) – “The Quick Mile”

It’s official. The rumours have been confirmed. Pivot are now PVT. PVT now have vocals. And the vocals make the band’s seething, melancholic sound, all the more intense.

New album, ‘Church With No Magic’ (out 16 July), promises to be the Sydney experimental trio’s most brain-shredding yet. It’s got all the hallmarks that have made these guys one of Australia’s favourite live acts: driving rhythms, explosive instrumentation, apocalyptic soundscapes. Yet the most exciting development is the introduction of Richard Pike’s vocals into the concoction, evolving the band’s surrealist sound into into a kind of weird, ferocious pop record.

Just check out this free mp3 of PVT’s brand new track, “The Quick Mile”. In a mere four-and-a-half minutes, it categorically establishes why these guys are Australia’s proudest national treasures, this side of Jessica Watson.
