Guest Blog: Frightened Rabbit introducing… Meursault
Welcome to “Introducing…”: a brand new, regular segment, where established indie artists offer tips on their favourite up-and-coming bands. This week, Scott Hutchison – frontman of the soon-to-be-touring Frightened Rabbit – guest-blogs about Edinburgh band, Meursault.
I really feel like more people around the globe ought to know about a tremendous band from Edinburgh called Meursault. Their singer, Neil Pennycook, has one of the most powerful voices I’ve ever heard. Their sound, though entirely their own, reminds me of some of my favourite bands: Xiu Xiu, Neutral Milk Hotel, Frog Eyes… It is heartfelt, inventive and inspiring.
The band are resolutely DIY, putting out their home-recordings via an Edinburgh label called Song, By Toad. I love the way they explode basic folk songs into electronic masterpieces – their debut full-length ‘Pissing On Bonfires/Kissing With Tongues’ has too many incredible moments to mention. They have another record out this year, and I can’t bloody wait to hear it.
