MP3: Matthew Dear – “I Can’t Feel”

Matthew Dear
I’d love to see Matthew Dear‘s daily planner. “Wake up. Innovate. Innovate. Shower. Innovate. Morning Tea. Innovate. Innovate. Lunch. Afternoon nap. Innovate.” Ad infinitum.

Whether he’s releasing avant-pop and house under his given name, or delving into minimal and techno under his pseudonyms Audion, False and Jabberjaw, the guy always seems to be one step ahead of the pack. And his forthcoming album, ‘Black City’, is case in point.

Set in an imagined metropolis (“Black City”), the album is a shadowy slice of dance-noir. The men are cynical, the femmes are fatale, and the whole experience comes wrapped in a web of electronic intrigue.

Just check out this free mp3 of teaser track, “I Can’t Feel”. The beat creeps, the vocals temper with temptation, the guitar line takes candy from strangers. It’s music that takes you to dark, caustic, morally-ambiguous places. The city. A club. The middle of the night.
