MP3: Isbells – “As Long As It Takes”

Isbells
Forever ago
, we at Inertia HQ can remember a time when an album landed on our collective desks – last name: “Iver”, first name: “Bon”. Before we’d even had time to work out that it wasn’t somebody’s name, it was on the stereo and we’d fallen crazily in (skinny) love. The rest is history.

Flash forward to 2010, and behold an eerily similar moment. It’s afternoon on some day or another, and somebody throws on a mysterious record of wistful, introspective folk ballads. All of a sudden the whole office has had its heart swept up, and is pining over some band whose name we haven’t even caught yet.

If you haven’t worked it out yet, the record was the self-titled debut from Belgian four-piece, Isbells. Spearheaded by vocalist/guitarist Gaëtan Vandewoude, the group make music so delicate, you sometimes feel like your breath might fracture it.

So don’t speak. Just listen and wrap yourself in the gentle daydream. And remember this moment.

I love Isbells. Bought the CD nearly instantly after I heard “As long as it takes.”

They remind me of Fleetfoxes – that same simplicity of the quasi-medieval sound with the instruments and voice.

Glad everybody’s enjoying this us much as we at Inertia are!

Listening to this track makes us wish “heartmelty” was a real adjective.
