Our buddies at Remote Control have made the exciting announcement that they will now represent of legendary New Zealand label, Flying Nun, in Australia. Even more excitingly, Inertia will be Remote Control’s distribution partner.

Remote Control will be responsible for marketing and promoting forthcoming Flying Nun releases and facilitating distribution through Inertia Music. The first release through the partnership is Die! Die! Die!’s new album ‘Form’, which is set for release on 1 October 2010 (check out a free mp3 from the album HERE)

Flying Nun came in to being in Christchurch in 1981, releasing music by a remarkable roster of artists including The Clean, The Chills, Chris Knox, Straight Jacket Fits and The Bats, to name just a few.

Steve Cross and Harvey Saward from Remote Control comment: “As long-time Flying Nun fans it’s an honour to work with the label. Its safely back in the hands of founder Roger Shepherd and that will result in some incredible music. Right now the “classic” Flying Nun sound is massively influential on a whole new generation of bands around the world; we hear it echoing in innumerable underground American bands getting love on the blogs. But, having heard the Die! Die! Die! Album, what’s really exciting is that the label isn’t resting on its reputation; its pushing forward and supporting great new music”.

Flying Nun’s founder Roger Shepherd adds: “Initially, the idea of buying back Flying Nun was very much about looking after the legacy of the label. It was part of a process of reconnecting with a huge range of music that I had been involved with, produced over twenty-nine odd years. But, I also quickly realised that I did not want to run a museum no matter how good the exhibits are. It is something that has to move forward and be alive – which means, new bands, new releases and new audiences. Yahoo! Here we go again.”
