MP3: Cloud Nothings – “Understand At All”

Cloud Nothings
We’ve been sitting on the news for a couple weeks now, but we’re stoked to announce that Rogue Records will be putting out Cloud Nothings‘ self-titled debut album in 2011.

If you’re not yet in the loop, Cloud Nothings is the alias of D.I.Y pop prodigy, Dylan Baldi. He nineteen years old, he wears glasses and he writes the catchiest tunes on the freakin’ planet right now. Rumour has it, that when he was faced with the choice between completing a mandatory school project or playing a gig with Woods and Real Estate, he opted to drop out of college. That, my friends, is rock n’ roll.

Anyway, having spent the last year releasing scuzzy lo-fi gems on the internet, he’s finally cranked up his production values for a 2011 full-length. The first track to emerge, “Understand At All”, is two minutes of punk-infused power-pop perfection. It sounds like Screeching Weasel in their prime, or The Dickies, or one of the edgier tracks from the ‘Empire Records’ soundtrack.

The beach became the centre of 2010′s indie-rock aesthetic thanks to Best Coast and Wavves. I think this kid just pre-emptively snatched 2011 for the ‘burbs. Watch this space.
