MP3: Oscar + Martin – “Recognise”

Oscar + Martin
While us Sydneysiders do love to rag on Melbournites for their strange idiosyncrasies (drinking beer out of adorably twee “pots”, referring to Jatz biscuits as “Savoy” biscuits, etc), there is a downside to the Sydney/Melbourne rivalry. Namely, it often takes us far to long to discover eachothers’ up-and-coming bands.

Listening to Melbourne’s Oscar + Martin, it honestly saddens me that I’m not already wearing one of their t-shirts. Formerly known as Psuche, the team of alt-pop prodigies, Oscar Slorach-Thorn and Martin King, make music which is weird and awkward, intimate and joyous. Using tape loops and childish zaps and whirs, they’ve somehow created the sonic equivalent of the year my voice broke.

With a debut album promised for 2011 via our besties at Two Bright Lakes and Remote Control, you’ll have to satisfy yourself for the moment with their free mp3, “Recognise”, and the three other tracks on their insanely cheap CD single.

Download the track and then head to their launches this weekend in Sydney and Melbourne…

Australian Tour Dates
Melbourne – 18th Nov @ Workers Club, Fitzroy (w/ Love Connection and Galapagoose)
Sydney – 20th Nov @ Excelsior (w/ Ghoul & Collarbones)
