MP3: Wire – “Two Minutes”

Lots of great stuff happened in 1976. ABBA visited Australia, Sylvester Stallone topped the box office and California repealed its sodomy laws (no presumed connection between the three). The year was also notable, however, because it saw the formation of U.K post-punk mainstay, Wire, who – over the next three-and-a-half decades – would go on to produce some of the most genre-smashing and iconoclastic records imaginable.

Thanks to our bosom-buds at Popfrenzy, Wire will be coming to Australia in January 2011 for a bunch of dates including Sydney Festival (with HEALTH!). They’ll also be putting out their new album ‘Red Barked Trees’ on 14th January – and you can get your first taste with “Two Minutes” below.

In two mere minutes (and one second – presumably rounded down for brevity), the guys manage to smash out a jagged shard of art-punk that feels as immediate and dangerous as anything in their classic catalogue. Wire are as barbed as ever.
