Album: New Pornographers’ Dan Bejar returns as Destroyer

DestroyerThe New Pornographers’ Dan Bejar is set to release the latest album under his acclaimed Destroyer moniker. ‘Kaputt’ is out this 15th April on Pod.

‘Kaputt’ constitutes Bejar’s ninth full-length as Destroyer – a body of work which includes art-rock masterpieces, ‘Streethawk: A Seduction’ (2001) and ‘Destroyer’s Rubies’ (2006).

Bejar’s staggering discography also includes work with A.C Newman and Neko Case as part Vancouver supergroup, The New Pornographers, and work with Spencer Krug (Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown) and Carey Mercer (Frog Eyes) as part of Swan Lake.

Already being touted as one of 2011’s finest albums by the likes of Pitchfork and TinyMixTapes, ‘Kaputt’ represents the crowning artistic achievement of the veteran’s career to date.

Appropriating the oft-maligned signifiers of the 1970s and 80s – from new wave (Simple Minds) and glam rock (Roxy Music) to smooth jazz (Kenny G) and adult contemporary (Sade) – it transcends the kitsch and emerges as a work of depth, wisdom, cynicism and hope.
