News: Adele set to break records in UK charts
Adele‘s second album ‘21‘ has been number one in the UK album chart for nine weeks, equalling the record set by Madonna’s ‘The Immaculate Collection’ back in 1990. This is the longest any female solo artist has held the top spot.
Adele has also held the top two positions in the chart for three out of the last five weeks, with her debut album ’19′ sitting at number two. Adele’s track “Someone Like You climbed” also climbed back up to number one in the singles chart, having been toppled by Nicole Scherzinger’s “Don’t Hold Your Breath” the week before. The singer-songwriter still has two other singles in the top 40 – “Rolling in the Deep” at number nine and “Make You Feel My Love” at 36 – and is also enjoying continued success in the US, where ’21′ also regained the number one spot in the Billboard album chart last week.
Earlier this year Adele became the first living artist to achieve the feat of two top five hits in both the UK Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously since The Beatles.
Adele’s new album ’21? is out now on XL Recordings through Remote Control.
