MP3: Shabazz Palaces – “Swerve… The Reeping of All That Is Worthwhile (Noir Not Withstanding)”
You gotta hand it to Weezy, Yeezy and Jeezy for having hip hop on lock for a decade, but sooner or later somebody was gonna come up and make things weird again. In the 90s, you had Kool Keith and Company Flow givin’ octagonecological funcrushers. In the 00s you had Def Jux, Anticon and Rhymesayers tearin’ subliminal/metaphysical/lyrical shreds off of eachother for underground supremecy.
So who’ll save the world in 2011? Well, if this track is anything to go by, the answer is Seattle’s Shabazz Palaces: the new project from Palaceer Lazaro, aka. Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler of the 1990′s collective, Digable Planets. Signed to Sub Pop, Lazaro will unleash Shabazz’s debut full-length ‘Black Up’ on 8th July, with early reports proclaiming it one of the albums of the year.
Download the album’s closing track, “Swerve… The Reeping of All That Is Worthwhile (Noir Not Withstanding)”, and experience the shattering of the space/time continuum. Swim in the interplanetary vortex and wrestle the organisms which inhabit the black sun.
