MP3: Plaid – “Missing”
Plaid were part of a tradition founded by Warp and – along with label mainstays Aphex Twin, Autechre, LFO, Two Lone Swordsman and Red Snapper – became one of the early 90s figure heads in electronic music.
After an eight year hiatus and somes rare Australian performances as part of Sydney Opera House’s Graphic Festival, Andy Turner and Ed Handley return with “Missing”, the lead track from their forthcoming album ‘Scintilli’.
“Missing” is ambient, beatless and sonically soothing in contrast to some of their earlier, pulsating dance floor productions like “Lilith” (featuring Bjork on vocals) and remix work for Goldfrapp and The Irresistible Force. Perhaps their soundtrack work for Michael Arias (Heaven’s Door/Tekkonkinkreet) and audio-visual project, ‘Greedy Baby’, impacted their direction in music?
Regardless, “Missing” is an intriguing and exciting teaser of what’s to come from Plaid’s latest release.
