MP3: Spank Rock – “Energy”
When it dropped in 2006, Spank Rock‘s debut, ‘YoYoYoYoYo’, was a money shot right in the face of party music. Laying his smutty rhymes across a plethora of turkey-slapping electro beats, Baltimore emcee Naeem Juwan managed to revive Miami bass, re-energise dance music and bitchslap hip-hop – all, pretty much, while talkin’ exclusively about his hard-on. Quite an achievement, even if not one to tell your mother about.
And, after several years of high-profile collaborations (Mark Ronson, Santigold, Kylie Minogue; the usual…) he’s finally back with a new record – the brilliantly titled, ‘Everything is Boring and Everyone is a Fucking Liar’.
The all-new, Boys Noize produced, “Vitamin C”-sampling track, “Energy”, boasts a slinking krautrock beat, wheezy vocals and an off-kilter rap verse. “Keep it clean, that’s the only rule,” Spank Rock says at the halfway mark. We’ll see.
