Video: Tyler, The Creator wins MTV Music Video Award: Best New Artist

Tyler, The Creator OFWGKTAOdd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All frontman Tyler, The Creator has won the award for Best New Artist at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, beating fellow nominees Big Sean, Foster the People, Kreayshawn and Wiz Khalifa.

Tyler won the award for “Yonkers”, a video which he directed himself that has now received 20 million views on YouTube. “Yonkers” was the first single from his album ‘Goblin’, released earlier this year on XL Recordings. Joined on stage by most of Odd Future, Tyler gave an expletive-filled acceptance speech, dedicating the award to Earl Sweatshirt while his elated mother looked on from the crowd.

“Yo, I’m excited as f— right now, yo. I wanted this sh– since I was 9. I’m about to cry. This is for my little brother Earl. He’s not here right now. I really can’t believe I’m here right now. I didn’t write a thank you speech. I don’t know. F—. To all the kids watching, you can do this sh–. Thank you.”
