News: Seth Sentry wins at SXSW
Melbourne rapper Seth Sentry will become the first Australian hip-hop artist to appear on US TV. Sentry beat out two other rappers in an LL Cool J endorsed competition at the recent SXSW festival to become the Doritos Bold Champion.
Sentry won the opportunity to “open for LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Ice Cube, and Doug E at the Doritos Bold Stage and be part of one of the most digitally interactive concerts fans have ever seen.” The concert was streamed online at Fuse TV, where “fans were able to vote for the opener on a star-studded bill that already featured LL COOL J, Ice Cube, Public Enemy and Doug E. Fresh by using the hashtag #BoldStage on Twitter.”
Sentry was selected as the winner over two other performers, by fans who evidently texted in more “#BoldStage” hashtags via twitter to the “commercial free” stage sponsored by Doritos and on Fuse TV. Sentry wins a performance slot on US talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live on April 4th, which is a pretty big deal: his appearance marks the first time an Australian hip-hop act has performed on an American talk show. He’ll also play with LL Cool J in June and July to open his ‘Authentic’ US tour.
Says Sentry: “I’m absolutely blown away, I still can’t believe we just won a rap competition in America! I say WE because you guys made it happen! Thank you.”
