Including footage taken during The Cat Empire’s headline performance as part of Melbourne’s White Night Festival in February, the video for “Steal The Light” captures all the pure improvised energy that has made the Melbourne six-piece one of Australia’s most successful live bands.
Following a sold-out national tour in March (including three sold-out Metros in Sydney and three sold out Prince Of Wales theatres in Melbourne), The Cat Empire will again hit the road in September taking their ecstatic stage show across Australia, USA, Canada, South America, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, France and Holland!

Title-track “Steal The Light” follows the extraordinary success of lead single, “Brighter Than Gold”, which has dominated radio airwaves since its release in February – including Triple J, where it continues to rank among the station’s most played tracks, and in Europe, where Holland’s 3FM named it a “Megahit”, propelling it to #17 in the iTunes charts!
New album ‘Steal The Light’ promises to be the band’s most exciting album yet. The rhythm is front and centre, harnessing a feeling of beautiful chaos, ancient ritual and glorious colour, all caught up in the magic of the beat.
“In many ways this record is a return to our original aesthetic, a very simple thing; that the music is for dancing and feeling good; and that the beat of the record belongs to all nations,” says trumpet player, Harry Angus. “Having said that, we are ten years older now than when we made that first record. So the lyrical content is different, the energy is different. But it should make people smile, make people dance. That’s all we wanted.”
The Cat Empire’s forthcoming album ‘Steal The Light’ is out now on Two Shoes Records via Inertia.
