MP3: Ásgeir – “King And Cross”

If you haven’t heard the name Ásgeir Trausti by now, you surely will in the coming weeks. The new Icelandic artist has recently been hailed as ‘the next big thing’ with his new album ‘In The Silence’ about to reach our shores.

‘In The Silence’ is a new album by Ásgeir, taking his previous Icelandic version and creating new English lyrics with producer John Grant. When the original was released in Iceland it became one of the fastest and highest selling debuts of the time, beating out labels mates Sigur Ros and Bjork. Leading him to sweep last year’s Icelandic Music Awards winning Best Pop/Rock Album and Best Newcomer.

In the lead up to its release we’ve been treated to the chilling single “King And Cross”. The track exemplifies his brand of melodic folk pop, featuring mellow bouncing beats combined with his signature soft falsetto voice (like an Icelandic Bon Iver). The impressive video clip fittingly sits Ásgeir‘s sound, framing him in a mountainous landscape as strange dancers prance around a king, discovering shattered mirror pieces.

Ásgeir‘s album ‘In The Silence’ is also the Triple J ‘Album Of The Week’ starting the 17th of March. You can download the album on iTunes here.

Below is the wonderfully weird video to “King And Cross”.

‘In The Silence’ is out this March 21st, 2014 on Pod through Inertia
