Inertia was established in March 2000 as a cutting-edge music distributor sourcing international product that was not represented in Australian. Inertia grew rapidly expanding to become one of Australia’s leading independent music companies with a policy of signing only the highest quality, most creative and forward thinking music from Australia and overseas.

 

In 2009 the Inertia Group of Companies employs 40 staff in its Sydney offices. Inertia is 100% Australian owned and operated and prides itself in offering clients a ‘One Stop Shop’ of services in Marketing, Promotion, Licensing, Sales, Distribution, Product Management, Production, Digital, Third Party Rights Administration, Merchandise and Touring.

Civil Society is Inertia's touring division and commenced operations in
2006, providing touring services and promotions for a wide range of
acts. Civil Society works in unison with labels providing an integrated
service for artists - combining an album releases with Australian tours.

Civil Society tours bands from a wide spectrum of musical styles -
including indie rock, hip hop, pop, dance, electronica, alt.country,
folk and roots.

Civil Society has worked with nearly all the major festivals in
Australia and is always looking for ways to place interesting acts and
music in front of the broadest crowd possible. Civil Society also act as
direct agents and tour managers for Australian festival's touring acts.

Civil Society's great attention to detail and high ethical standards for
all tours is resulting in a highly regarded reputation for competence
and trustworthiness. Civil Society's team have professional backgrounds in touring, law, accounting, publicity & promotion, marketing and are wildly

Inertia Recordings

Inertia Recordings is Inertia's inhouse imprint that was set up in 2002 as the vehicle for our Australian and New Zealand signings.

Inertia Recordings is home to Australian singer and songwriter, Ben Lee upon which Lee's mulit-award winning and double platinum album 'Awake Is The New Sleep' and highly acclaimed recent album 'Ripe' were both released.

Inertia Recordings has also released albums from The Cops , N'Fa, Gersey, Holidays on Ice, Concord Dawn, Shapeshifter and the successful soundtrack to the film 'Suburban Mayhem'.

Rogue Records

Begun in 2003, Rogue Records is Inertia's destination for a broad spectrum of music styles, including nidie, folk, alt country and electronic. Rogue Records focuses on quality artists, strong performers and great songwriters. Rogue has built up a consistently superb roster, and with its global perspective, offers local music fans some of the best artists from around the world, including Coco Rosie (USA), Caribou (Canada), Pinback, (USA), el Perro Del Mar (Sweden), Hold Steady (USA), 5 O'Clock Heroes (UK), Alela Diane (USA), Mouse On Mars (Germany), Bon Iver (USA) and Lambchop (USA).

PATTERN

An imprint established to specifically cater to the dance & electronic cultures. For both Artist based and Compilation based releases of current & emerging sounds that are of the higher echelon of the relevant movement or fascination. In 2007, Pattern made waves across the international dance music scene by releasing the critically-lauded new album from New Zealand's Shapeshifter, 'Soulstice'.

PROVENANCE

Provenance, from the French provenir, "to come from", means the origin, or the source of something, or the history of the ownership or location of an object. The term was originally mostly used of works of art. The provenance of works of fine art, antiques and antiquities often assumes great importance.

Provenance the label, has a self governed charter to identify iconic, seminal and referential Australian bands and their repertoire. Not only to our local landscape, but that of the world. To document and re-issue them once more for the world to enjoy & experience again, or for the first time. Sometimes keeping the recordings as they once were, other times enhancing through digital remastering or additionally by including lost tracks, b-sides or out-takes from the same sessions.

Inertia Digital manages all issues related to the content, technology, design, customer support and marketing of the Inertia website.

The site provides a multifaceted resource for retailers, media, record labels and the general public, providing release information, news, charts, tours, competitions as well as an access point to search or purchase items from the Inertia catalogue.

An increasing range of titles is now being made available on the site as paid downloads. These are legal, virusfree digital music files that have been encoded as high quality 320k stereo MP3 files. Once purchased, downloaded MP3 files may be burned to CD unlimited times and are transferable to the iPod or any other digital music player that supports the MP3 format.
