Real Damage

ROCK
THE GOSSIP and TRACY AND THE PLASTICS both hail from Olympia, Washington. Unlike most \"garage rock\" bands of this, or any era, the two-girl, one-boy band\'s innate skill is in its take on our tarnished cultural byproducts: blues, rock and soul.
The Gossip\'s two songs on the \'Real Damage\' EP show the band\'s powerful, yet threadbare sound at its height. KATHY MENDONCA lays out thumping, primal tom-tom beats, while NATHAN HOWDESHELL\'s murky guitar lines slink and slither as though locked into a snake-charmer\'s spell. Vocalist BETH DITTO\'s undeniably forceful pipes evoke both ETTA JAMES and PATTI SMITH as she wails of other untold damage on \"Sleepers.\" Tracy And The Plastics two songs on this split single find at its most frenzied barrage of drum machine beats, fuzzed-out guitars, warbling synthesizer and schizoid, colliding vocal lines. Tracy and The Plastics was recorded in NYC by J.D. SAMSON of LE TIGRE. The Gossip recorded in Portland, OR with JEREMY ROMAGNA (CHROMATICS, YELLOW
SWANS).
