ROCK
\'Burn to Shine\' is film series produced by FUGAZI\'s BRENDAN CANTY and directed by film CHRISTOPH GREEN. This is the first installment in the series and features live performances by BOB MOULD (HUSKER DU, SUGAR) TED LEO, IAN MACKAYE\'s (FUGAZI) new band THE EVENS, WEIRD WAR (exMAKE UP), Q AND NOT U (DISCHORD), Canty\'s band GARLAND OF HOURS, MEDICATIONS (exFARAQUET), and FRENCH TOAST (featuring James Canty of Make Up, and Jerry Busher of Fugazi).
The crew travels from town to town and films bands performing in houses that are about to be demolished or burned to the ground. They document the house, the bands, and the demolition, put it together in a 45 minute movie, put it out on DVD and move on to the next town
Each DVD/town has a different curator, entrenched in the respective music scene, and who can pick out what he or she considers the worthiest bands that we may have never heard of, along with a few more well known groups. The songs were recorded on a multitrack mobile recording unit and filmed in HD with multiple cameras, which gives the film an incredibly crisp, clean look and sound.
Surprisingly perhaps, the bands actually rock like hell in this totally marginal, domestic nvironment and the performances are all unrehearsed and exciting.
The DVD also contains an extras sequence with beautifully shot still photos of all the bands with outtakes and music underneath. Volume 2 in this amazing series has already been filmed in Chicago and features WILCO, SHELLAC, TORTOISE, and more It is scheduled for release
later in the year. DVD is NTSC ALL REGIONS.
