What We Must
Ninja Tune
BEATS
The new album from Norwegian tenpiece collective JAGA JAZZIST will blow your mind JAGA has always been a band that has eschewed the latest trends, focusing their decadelong efforts on evolving a unique sound to collectively express their musical ideas. With their last album, the sonically adventurous \'The Stix\', Jaga embraced fully the electronic elements they previously dabbled with. The results even had even the MARS VOLTA buzzing For the new album, \'What We Must\', the band took new material into an isolated studio in the Norwegian woods and recorded a breakthrough live demo, put down in one take in one day (available as a limited edition bonus disc with early copies of the album). While this may be loosely referred to as their \"rock album\", for Jaga, this means a kaleidoscopic take on rock stylings, rolling from early \'90s British shoegazer guitar pop to \'70s prog rock, all shot through with Jaga\'s own unique logic. The sheer musicality is awesome, the arrangements remarkable.
This is an exciting blend of rock, postrock, jazz, postjazz, soundscaped beats and, well, whatever else... Years of playing together has resulted in a breathtaking tightness and sympathy that leads to blistering performances, both live and on record. Brand new on NINJA TUNE, this album will urprise and engage you check it out
