\'Crazy When Wet\' is the unchained debut long player from Chicago\'s TIGHT PHANTOMZ. Following their well received \'Nightfool\' EP, \'Crazy When Wet\' is one motherlode of a boogie record; complete with a mid lick swinging drop kick to the face of convention, and a shady hoochie-koo shuffle step that would make the Starchild himself proud. The jagged molten embers of pre-Tight Phantomz band LUSTRE KING are still evident (MIKE and JAY were the core of Lustre King), but Tight Phantomz is so much more. Bassist CALE ARTHUR brings a wrecking ball to the low end, pumping up their sound to within breaking.
Their tender one minute/ferocious the next dirty boy rock boogie, the rock gymnastics and the five fingered JAMES BROWN dominance of LUST THE ENTERTAINER, quickly envelops the crowd, shearing away any of the woes and worries of the real world, and rekindles the primordial instinct to get it on!
These nine originals and the cover of FLEETWOOD MAC\'s \"Albatross\", are a snotty blast of attitude and classic rock bombast, with the frenzy of a house party overrun by the sweaty city kids that came to steal your car and meet your sister. It\'s not all Godzilla guitars and bongs in rec rooms though.
There\'s a connection to that creepy side of the 1970s, the dark spaces that brought on the Fleetwood Mac\'s penguin fetish and the queasy allure of Al Stewart\'s \'Year of the Cat\'. Tight Phantomz are laughing, rocking, and paying homage all at the same time.
