HRSTA (hershta) is the latest addition to the CONSTELLATION roster and \'Stem Stem In Electro\' is the band\'s second record, following a critically acclaimed debut album release on Montreal\'s FANCY RECORDINGS in 2001.
The band\'s ringleader is guitarist and singer MIKE MOYA, who was a founding member of GODSPEED YOU BLACK EMPEROR back in 1995 and played on that band\'s first two records. He left the group in 1998 to pursue more roots based music as a member of MOLASSES, continued developing his unique guitar sound with SET FIRE TO FLAMES, and generated own compositional vehicle, Hrsta. He\'s also a member of labelmate ELIZABETH ANKA VAJAGIC\'s live band. \'Stem Stem In Electro\' is a gorgeous collection of songs painted in psychrock tones and timbres, minor key progressions, and unsettling invocations of haunted transcendentalism.
\'Stem Stem In Electro\' casts its spell from the opening notes and conjures a shadowy, saturated world surveyed both from ground level and from on high. Recorded at Montreal\'s Hotel2Tango by HOWARD BILERMAN (Silver Mt. Zion, BLACK OX ORKESTAR, THALIA ZEDEK). Moya enlisted ERIC CRAVEN (HANGEDUP) and HARRIS NEWMAN (SOLO, SACKVILLE) as his rhythm section, along with Montreal stringplaying stalwarts (and fellow Set Fire to Flame cohorts) BECKIE FOON, GEN HEISTEK and SOPHIE TRUDEAU.
