Detail From The Mountian Side
Drag City
SOUNDTRACK
- AZITA is one of the most beguiling artists toiling in the underground
today. There is nothing today quite like her darker take on the jazz-tinged
piano-lead singer songwriter style of '70s pioneers STEELY DAN, CAROLE KING
or LAURA NYRO.
- 'Detail from the Mountain Side' is a sweet five track CDEP release
with lyrics written by Chicago playwright BRIAN TORREY SCOTT for his play
of the same name.
- The play Detail from the Mountain Side, performed last year in Chicago,
has the story of a man attempting to readjust, but it is more about how people
think they've learned something when they haven't.
- AZITA composed music for five separate pieces, coming up with a variety
of moods over five songs that range from lilting and melodic to more intense.
The band that provided the bedrock was recruited from the streets of Chicago:
bassists MATT LUX (ISOTOPE 217) and JASON AJEMIAN (Chicago jazz legend),
RIAN MURPHY (WILL OLDHAM) on drums, and EMMETT KELLY on guitar (whose amazing
playing was featured on EDITH FROST'S last album). >? "AZITA shears
the tiny line between genius and utterly confounding but, errs more on the
side of genius." PITCHFORK MEDIA
