Before there was WEIRD WAR and after NATION OF ULYSSES, there was the mighty MAKE UP! The Washington D.C. quintet of IAN SVENONIUS, MICHELLE MAE, JAMES CANTY, STEVE GAMBOA, ALEX MINOFF shook the foundations of a self-important US rock underground with their infectious mod-soul-garage-punk-rama-lama. All the while sticking it to 'the man' with a wry sense of humour rather than drab slogans & predictable posturing. Add to that a sharp "ace face" mod inspired dress sense & you have one legendary band.
Their two studio albums, 'After Dark' (DIS105CD) and 'In Mass Mind' (DIS113CD) on DISCHORD brought a fervour and fever not felt in rock since the days of the band's heroes the MC5 and LOVE. Many still talk about the shows from on Australian tour in the 1999 as being some of the best rock n' roll gigs ever seen here. That's right - ever!
