Warp
INDIE
- BATTLES, formed in 2002, is WARP's new signing from New York - TYONDAI BRAXTON
on vocals, keyboardist, guitar and electronics. Tyondai is an avant-garde solo
musician who's previously collaborated with PREFUSE 73. He's joined by JOHN STANIER
on drums, ex HELMET and member of MIKE PATTON's TOMAHAWK, IAN WILLIAMS on guitar
and keyboard, ex-DON CABALLERO and DAVE KONOPKA on guitar & bass, previously
in LYNX.
- We are very excited about this band who caused a big stir in A&R
circles.
- Battles can be described as many things: post-rock, math-rock, avant-rock,
drone-rock, jazz-rock, krautrock, ambient, psychedelic rock one's things
for sure...they f
#cking rock!!!
- We can't describe exactly who they sound like although they should appeal
to fans of TORTOISE, GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR, FUGAZI, MARS VOLTA, COMETS
ON FIRE, BLACK MOUNTAIN, EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE, OOIOO,
LIGHTNING BOLT, MOGWAI etc... Isn't it great to have a band that isn't a 2nd
or 3rd rate whoever! Battles describe their music as "somewhere between
electronic and rock. Those two factors...we don't have to play garage music
the way you might if all the members had only been in garage bands before.
Battles can do what it wants."
- DAVID BOWIE was in attendance at the Bowery Ballroom gig in New York
City last week.
- Already on solid rotation with indie radio champions like Fbi, 3RRR
and 4ZZZ
- Warp are also releasing an album later in the year for you to get
your teeth into.
