To an ever-growing number of music lovers HOWE GELB is a true American pioneer. The band he formed in the mid 80s (and still records with), GIANT SAND pioneered the re-invention of American roots music that has become known as Alt-Country or Americana.
Gelb has also been a catalyst for many now high profile acts, most notably the duo formed by his GIANT SAND bandmates JOEY BURNS & JOHN CONVERTINO, CALEXICO and
M. WARD whom he mentored and released his first two albums.
He has recorded with LUCINDA WILLIAMS & EVAN DANDO and his BAND OF BLACKY RANCHETTE project (THRILL138CD) featured collaborations with M. WARD, NEKO CASE, KURT WAGNER (LAMBCHOP), RICHARD BUCKNER & JASON LYTTLE (GRANDADDY).
Now Gelb releases his best album yet, ''Sno Angel Like You', featuring Canadian gospel choir VOICES OF PRAISE. You'll feel the hairs on your arms stand up as they raise Gelb's already inspirational (but secular) songs heavenward, including three classic Giant Sand songs.
