Born Again In The Usa

- You could call LOOSE FUR a side project for WILCO'S Jeff Tweedy, some
fun to have with WILCO compadres JIM O'ROURKE and GLENN KOTCHE. Except that
the first LOOSE FUR album in 2003, a freely arranged art rock experiment,
was undoubtedly a key factor in the creation of WILCO'S often mindblowing
2004 album A 'Ghost Is Born'.
- 'Born Again in the USA' is a more conventionally written and structured
album than both its predecessor and A Ghost.
- The songwriting here seems more considered and there's a more cohesive
blending of '70s rock, easy paced (if slightly bent) country folk, some twisting
and turning artiness and, in songs such as O'ROURKE'S 'Answers to your questions',
some of the slowly percolating mood of Smog.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY "More about songs than weird jams, alternating
between twisted retro rock and eccentric folk rock."
NY TIMES "It's more coherent [than its predecessor] by a mile. It's
longer, and its group songwriting blends better."
DROWNED IN SOUND "It's not often that a side-project produces an album
that deserves anything more than a footnote mention. Loose Fur deserves its
own cult."
