The Last Of The Rock Stars
Laughing Outlaw
POP
- LAUGHING OUTLAW is proud to present the first new album from RONNIE
SPECTOR in 20 years, 'The Last Of The Rock Stars'.
- RONNIE SPECTOR sang the lead vocals on BRIAN WILSON's favourite song
ever ("Be My Baby") as lead singer of the definitive 'girl group',
THE RONNETTES and she endured a tempestuous marriage to the legendary PHIL
SPECTOR while she was the key voice in front of his legendary 'Wall Of Sound'
productions of the early 60s.
- Many claim her as their favourite pop vocalist, including the likes
of THE BEATLES (all four sang back up vocals behind her on a 1969 single
- and then tried to seduce her!) as well as key bands of the 70s such as
BLONDIE, THE RAMONES & PATTI SMITH.
- Fittingly this record is crammed full of amazing guest stars, many who
owe her a great debt: KEITH RICHARDS, PATTI SMITH, NICK ZINNER (of THE YEAH
YEAH YEAH's), the late JOEY RAMONE (on a great cover of the JOHNNY THUNDERS
classic "You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory"), THE RAVEONETTES
and neo-garage-freakbeat-R&B scorchers (and recent visitors) THE GREENHORNES.
- This is up there with the recent BETTY LAVETTE CD as comeback of the
year!
- Check the amazing press this album is getting overseas: THE GUARDIAN "The
62 year old still makes a single "whoa-oh" bleed with desperation
and transforms the word "baby" from a girlish endearment to a wanton
appeal." THE OBSERVER "The voice that soundtracked a thousand wet
dreams in the Sixties is still a thing of ragged but powerful beauty." PLAN
B "...given another chance to give full vent to her incredible voice."
