Stranger On The Sofa
Central Control Int
INDIE
The murky world of BARRY ADAMSON continues to deliver records of depth and quality. The new album from the former member of THE BAD SEEDS is the first on his own CENTRAL CONTROL label, and pushes further the sound he has defined.
'Stranger On The Sofa' is Adamson's first collection of new material in four years, and follows the unique path he has trodden with his solo work. Blending styles like a mad musical bartender, Adamson mines the fields of pop, rock, soul, gospel, funk, psychedelia and more... with a few knockout singles to boot!
This album finds Adamson fully embracing the DIY aesthetic from where he began back in the 70s, playing bass with MAGAZINE. ''If I had a bulldozer rather than a hammer'' is the image Adamson conjures with 'Stranger On The Sofa'!
Barry Adamson's work as bassist for HOWARD DEVOTO's art-punk outfit, Magazine, and NICK CAVE's Bad Seeds gave little indication of the complex, cinematic works he has composed as a solo artist. After leaving the Bad Seeds in 1987, Adamson decided to follow the path of film composers like JOHN BARRY, ENNIO MORRICONE and BERNARD HERMANN, whose work has intrigued him since childhood.
ROUGHTRADE "This album picks up where Adamson left off - his trademark, shiny, cinematic beast of a sound marching into town once more"
BABYSUE.COM "Another great album from a man who commands attention...and deserves it."
