As you may know DJ SHORTKUT is a member of the explosive mix-team the BEAT JUNKIES and a legend of the hip-hop world. Shortkut began his DJ career is 1987 with JUST 2 HYPE!, a DJ crew based out of Daly City, California.
In 1994, Shortkut, together with Q-BERT and MIXMASTER MIKE, formed the now infamous collective known as THE INVISIBL SKRATCH PIKLZ, a legendary turntable band that heralded a new era in the DJ/turntablist world, and helped raise this musical art to its new form .
DJ Shortkut has now has turned his attention to the ‘New Jack Swing’ era delivering a mix album that is a must for all lovers of this scene and new fans seeking for a definite album to showcase this much loved and legendary genre.
For the uninitiated new jack swing is a hybrid style of R&B combined with Hip Hop which was at its height of popularity from the late 1980's to early/mid 1990's. Its sound is a combination of the sporadic hip hop "swing" beats which were popular during the golden age of hip hop mixed with contemporary R&B style singing.battle-rhyme edge.
Having already turned his attention to reggae with his ‘Blunted With A Beat Junkie’ mix for ANTIDOTE, the legendary bay area-based DJ now tackles the ready-for-resurrection New Jack Swing genre. Blending together classics from the likes of BELL BIV DEVOE, LL COOL J, BOBBY BROWN, SLICK RICK, HEAVY D & THE BOYZ, TONY TONI TONE and WRECKS ‘N’ EFFECT, but with a turntablist twist,
