For Hero:for Fool
Lex
HIP HOP
Following on their earlier albums 'A New White' (LEX029CD) & ''Wishingbone' (LEX030CD), the Bay Area collective SUBTLE release their third and best album to date 'For Hero: For Fool'. The project is mothered and manned by ADAM DRUCKER (AKA DOSE ONE, the ANTICON poet-throat behind such celebrated ventures into the art unknown as THEMSELVES, CLOUDDEAD, and 13 & GOD).
Adam is also the face and voice of SUBTLE, while the band's sweetmeats are comprised of: The cello and bass playing ALEXANDER KORT; drummer, guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist JORDAN DALRYMPLE; drum machine maestro, Anticon aural lynchpin and Themselves' better half JEFFREY "JEL" LOGAN; and woodwinds mesmerist MARTY KALANI DOWERS. DAX PIERSON works voice and harmonica. All six are composers, producers and ideasmen.
Although Subtle's work could be described as a middle ground between futuristic hip hop and underground US rock, that is a long way from doing it justice.
Q - "Like Outkast, Subtle are one of the very few acts taking hip hop in a genuinely new and unexpected direction."
