It S So Hard To Tell
Megaphone
INDIE
Major re-release of this absolutely essential all time classic folk/blues album with new packaging, detailed booklet and for the first time ever a stunning DVD with archive footage (with all the known footage of her).
KAREN DALTON is now recognised as one of the most unique talents ever in American music, and was often called the "hillbilly BILLIE HOLIDAY" and once you hear her voice you will not be the same. Few voices (white or black) could sing the blues like this.
She was discovered by FRED NEIL and was produced by NIK VENET, the man who signed the BEACH BOYS and took THE BEATLES to America. 'It's So Hard To Tell...' is from 1969 is one of only two albums she recorded before her untimely death.
As well as BOB DYLAN, the likes of NICK CAVE, DEVENDRA BANHART and JOANNA NEWSOM are known to be huge fans. Dylan himself said in his book 'Chronicles', "my favourite singer on the place was Karen Dalton... She had a voice like Billie Holiday and played the guitar like JIMMY REED and went all the way with it. I sang with her a couple of times."
THE SUN 5/5 "Here's your chance to discover a true hidden treasure." ...THE GUARDIAN 4/5 "Dalton was a stupendous, visceral interpreter of folk and blues classics." ...THE TIMES 5/5 "This album feels like a major archeological find, with Dalton at least the equal of her gilded contemporaries."...WORD LEAD REVIEW "It's compelling stuff. Musically, it's a cross between the third Velvet Underground album, Tim Buckley's 'Morning Glory', and some Harry Smith field recording.." ...PLAN B LEAD REVIEW: "It will break your heart, and then mend it in the morning." ... MOJO "A real find - Re-issue Of The Month"...UNCUT 5/5.
