In 2004, St. Louis, USA quartet SO MANY DYNAMOS released their debut, ‘When I Explode’. Since then, the band has played over 200 shows and learned how to harness the urgency of their live performances in the studio. The result is ‘Flashlights’.
SMD plays chaotic pop music. The guitars of Griffin Kay and Ryan Wasoba duel over a foundation of Aaron Stovall’s bass and Clayton Kunstel’s tight drumming, creating songs that weave in and out between sing-a-long choruses and youthful freak-outs.
On ‘Flashlights’, the unpredictable nature of the songs is enhanced by the addition of horns, a choir, and a variety of in-studio experiments.
At different times will SMD remind you of PINBACK, THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES & THE ARCADE FIRE.
SPIN “With ill-tuned guitars and Midwestern angst, St. Louis’ Dynamos craft woozy angular noise punk.” DELUSIONS OF ADEQUACY “It’s a strong and confident record, brimming with talent and potential, and it promises much greater things to come from this relatively young band”
