Leggo De Lion
Kindred Spirit
JAZZ
Anthony Joseph is one of the most exciting and innovative voices, poet, musician, performer, and leading writers of his generation. Born in Trinidad and based in London since 1989, Joseph creates what he calls ‘liquid textology’ together with The Spasm Band who provide the musical component of Joseph’s novel ‘The African Origins of UFOs’ as heard on ‘Leggo de Lion’. The Spasm Band play a kind of ‘wild island Jazz’ with direct lineage to Caribbean ancestry, a sound infused with Trinidadian spiritual baptist rhythms, deep, hypnotic basslines, jagged sax and hard hand percussion - Its a music made to cause possession spasms - Go be hot! Drum skin bust! Leggo de lion on dem!
