NEW WAVE… When post punk met pop culture.
A selection by MARC COLLIN of NOUVELLE VAGUE
Welcome to the 80’s as you have never heard them before … where classic & exclusive tracks of the New Wave genre have been carefully selected.
The second release to come from new label DISTRICT 6 is one of those compilations that come along every so not very often, turning everything we think we know about music on its head. Compiled by MARC COLLIN of the phenomenal NOUVELLE VAGUE comes an equally phenomenal album.
This is Nouvelle Vague in reverse - new wave bands covering classic tracks of our time. Not a compilation for the sake of it, but an album shedding new light on, and breathing new life into one of the most controversial (& back in vogue) movements of recent times.
Nouvelle Vague presents New Wave features some of the great names of the 80’s – VISAGE, OMD, THE STRANGLERS, JOY DIVISION, GARY NUMAN and NICO rendering their versions of classic tracks by THE ROLLING STONES, BOWIE, THE KINKS, THE VELVET UNDERGROUND, THE DOORS and others. Alongside these are more obscure bands – Belgium’s Polyphonic Size, Antena from France, The Comateens from New York. Perhaps most representative of the spirit of the new wave movement as a whole and this album in particular is Belgium’s Elton Motello deviant cover of PLASTIQUE BERTRAND’s international hit, “Ça plane pour moi”.
This is a fascinating, illuminating insight into the weird & wonderful world of New Wave.
