Benny At Home
Sonar Kollektiv
SOUL/FUNK
You may have never heard of BENNY SINGS (AKA Tim Berkestijn) before, but he is already close to star status in his native Holland. His 4th album ‘Benny… At Home’ has refined his very unique style, one that transcends ideas of ‘fashionable’ or ‘nostalgic’.
His main inspiration is the jazzy, funky pop of the ‘70s & ‘80s from the likes of Steely Dan, MICHAEL FRANKS or even HALL & OATES but with a love of soul and R&B. While the album’s contemporary production drags it into 2007, Sings is always focused on songwriting and that is what will make people fall in love with this record (as many here at Inertia have!). This album will appeal to an older jazz-centric market as much as a younger pop / soul crowd. JAMIROQUAI without the Ferraris? A jazzier JOHN LEGEND?
Here’s some great press Benny Sings has already received:
THE AGE (27/07) ×××× “…dialling up BOZ SCAGGS, HALL & OATES, STEVIE WONDER & the JACKSON 5….ridiculously entertaining…What takes him beyond novelty is his tracks. “We’ll Make Love Songs” is as complex as anything by TIMBERLAKE. Benny Sings, you swoon.”
OUT OF HAND “mixes his obvious love of hip-hop production with the pop sensibilities of THE CARPENTERS and Burt Bacharach… get in there before the rush”…
INPRESS “…his knack for creating infectious pop music with an underground jazz-hip hop lean, though it may sound unlikely, is amazing.”
IN THE MIX “What a little gem of an album! A gorgeous album of sunny soul & dreamy funk. Classy stuff.”
