Excellent Italian Greyhound
Touch And Go
INDIE
SHELLAC is the ‘brainchild’ of infamous engineer/recorder STEVE ALBINI – ex Big Black and Rapeman and produer of albums from The Pixies, Nirvana and PJ Harvey among many many others. The band also includes Todd Trainer on Drums and producer Bob Weston, the Bass.
Their first album in 7 years, the taught guitar/bass/drums of ‘Excellent Italian Greyhound’ is well on it’s way to being the bands most hailed and critically acclaimed release since their 1994 album ‘At Action Park’.
More likely to play Reykjavik than Detroit, and more likely to release songs on flexi-discs in Dutch comic books than provide MP3s on their website, Shellac will always be known for doing it their way. Being able to operate completely outside the typical machinations of music -- independent or otherwise, their press sheets typically exclaim “no free lunch,” referring to NO promo copies -- the trio have carved out a sizable niche for themselves across the years.
ALL MUSIC GUIDE “as impressive as anything this band has ever performed in the studio ….. Excellent Italian Greyhound is just Shellac being Shellac in their own sweet time, and these nine songs demonstrate how challenging and rewarding that can be; it’s a stellar accomplishment from a truly singular band.”
