Rising from the dark corners of Melbourne and positioning themselves firmly in the spotlight via their highly acclaimed self-titled EP, DARDANELLE’S emerged as one of 2006’s most promising acts. Now with the release of their dream-like debut album ‘Mirror Mirror’, Dardanelles make good on the promise.
A panoramic soundscape of unexpected hooks, hypnotic grooves, soaring vocals, and filmic noise, Mirror Mirror is an intense listening experience. It’s clear from the outset there isn’t a pigeon-hole suitable for these carefully crafted 11 tracks.
With a mix of maturity and mischief, ‘Mirror Mirror’ juggles shoe-gaze guitars and hip-hop drum programming, Detroit-tech piano and one-man choirs.
The album was recorded with Woody Annison (Red Riders and Children Collide) over four weeks in Melbourne under the microscope of media, the accolades have been pouring in for some time, from being featured by iTunes as a “band to watch in 2007”, selected for Triple Js ‘Next Crop’ in 2006, and receiving plenty of airplay for their smash underground single ‘Origami Tree’, and follow-up ‘Of Course You Said.’
Dardanelles have been equally impressive on the live front, described as one of the best live acts in Australia, and shaking speaker stacks alongside Who Made Who (Denmark), The Howling Bells, Cut Copy, Dappled Cities, Lost Valentinos, Damn Arms, Johnny Boy (UK) and Expatriate. With the release of Mirror Mirror, Dardanelles’ steady rise is sure to continue.
