AMAZING DEBUT OF DELICATE ENGLISH FOLK FROM 23 YEAR OLD DISCOVERY- THE UK JOANNA NEWSON?
Debut album release by new LEAF signing, 23-year-old multi-instrumentalist NANCY ELIZABETH, from Wigan in Lancashire
Drawing on classic British folk, Eastern European song, colliery brass bands, lambent psychedelia, medieval sonnets, and Gamelan scales, 'Battle And Victory' is honest, heartfelt, timeless and completely fresh. She demonstrates her master musicianship by claiming all writing credits and playing most of the instrumental menagerie involved, which includes guitar, khim, Indian harmonium, Appalachian dulcimer, and bouzouki.
Her unmistakably Northern turn of phrase lends her work a refreshingly down-to-earth quality
The album was mainly recorded in a remote cottage in the depths of the Welsh countryside
Nancy has been performing live since the age of 16 and has built a considerable live following through committed touring in the UK
Has played with JAMES YORKSTON, TUNNG, A HAWK AND A HACKSAW and ESPERS among others
Will appeal to fans of CAT POWER, NINA NASTASIA, JOANNA NEWSOM, BETH ORTON.
This amazing record will attract glowing reviews, but here is a smattering of the early acclaim it has garnered:
DROWNED IN SOUND "If I were Joanna Newsom I'd watch my back, because there's a new harpist in town."
MUSICDASH.CO.UK "At long last, Nancy Elizabeth should now be recognised as one of the truly great artists of Northern England."
GREENCLOTHESMSIC.COM "Influenced by folk and post-rock, her music is all at once delicate and foreboding; pounding drums accentuate her beckoning, upright bass sends shivers as she sings about unseen doom. Add in her sensual voice and what you get is singer/songwriter magic."
