‘Good Arrows’ is TUNNG’s first album to be recorded in its entirety with the full, six-piece band (core duo SAM GENDERS & MIKE LINDSAY handled the majority of the first two), there’s a new depth of sound & power here, & a clutch of songs that’ll get right under your skin. Drawing on influences from Icelandic prog rock, choral music & film soundtracks.
‘Good Arrows’ marks a significant development for Tunng – they’ve expanded beyond the awkwardly-applied folktronica tag to become a fully fledged (if experimentally-skewed) pop band. The songs on ‘Good Arrows’ develop the Tunng sound further and feel like their most fully formed set to date. Tracks such as ‘Bricks’ and the BEATLES-esque ‘Bullets’ are obvious radio tracks and will be released as singles in that order but the album has great depth beyond that, including the DJ SHADOW / MIKE OLDFIELD soundclash that is ‘Soup’ and the delicate, harrowing tale of a doctor trying to resuscitate a patient that is ‘Hands’.
It is a classic album & surely the bridging point that will see Tunng grow from being the revered folktronica darlings of ‘Comments Of The Inner Chorus’ to a unique & broadreaching band in their own right, equally liked by those into indie, dance, folk & mainstream music fans alike. We’ve only ever heard positive comments about Tunng & this album will surely see the superlatives flow.
