His albums have become essential for any store’s ambient or chill section. ‘Sakura’ & ‘The Boy & The Tree’ in particular have been very popular in Australia. Crucial to his popularity is that he has never ventured into cliché and he is constantly evolving his sound. While he retains an obvious ‘Japanese’ quality to his sound, he has an ability to see the beauty in small details, something that is universal.
This is the first ever collection of Yokota’s work, all from his own Japanese label SKINTONE (which Inertia has distributed via the LEAF & LO RECORDINGS labels) and is compiled by Ben Eshmade from UK digital radio station ‘The Chiller Cabinet’. A new album will be released later this year.
