EMMA POLLOCK is a former member of Mercury Music Prize-nominated band The Delgados … this is her debut solo album out now on the highly esteemed 4AD label.
The Delgados were strongly supported by JJJ, with specific support from Richard Kingsmill who acclaimed their ‘Great Western’ album as the Album Of the Year on release.
Armed with impeccable credentials, distinctively soulful vocals and 11 deftly dynamic songs, this is Emma’s debut solo album.
Emma’s songwriting combines wide-eyed melody and thoughtful lyrics to thoroughly beguiling effect.
The album was written by Emma and produced by Victor Van Vugt, whose previous credits include Nick Cave, PJ Harvey and Beth Orton.
And the fact that the record was mixed by the Grammy-nominated Jeremy Wheatley (Razorlight and Corinne Bailey Rae amongst many others) might suggest, Emma had a clear vision. “I love pop music when it’s done intelligently.”
As well as spending 11 successful years in The Delgados, Emma is a co-founder of the band’s pioneering Glaswegian indie label Chemikal Underground - whose discoveries include Mogwai, Bis and Arab Strap. Thanks to The Delgados’ five acclaimed albums – as well as their dedication to independent music in Scotland – the band remains one of the most influential acts of the last decade.
