Distance & Time
Ninja Tune
FOLK
Okay, it’s time we all moved beyond this story – but to those new to the FINK story here’s the lowdown. After a tasty album of typical leftfield beats on the NTONE offshoot of NINJA TUNE, Fink releases an astounding folk record on Ninja, ‘Biscuits For Breakfast’. Initially many raise one eyebrow and ask “but he did beats before – why is he doing folk?” and then raised the other eyebrow and say “wait, Ninja are putting out a folk album?” Then the same people actually listened to the album and realised it is amazing (see the glowing reviews below).
Now we’ve got that out of the way, let’s cut to 2007 and after supporting ZERO 7 in the UK and Europe Fink works with producer ANDY BARLOW (one half of the much loved duo LAMB) on his next album ‘Distance & Time’ and attains the noticeably bigger and more sophisticated sound he needs to move forward. Oh, and the songs are even more amazing this time.
In a market somewhat over crowded with acoustic & “nu-folk” records ‘Distance & Time’ will stand out not only because of Fink’s intimate yet rich voice and the stunning arrangements, but for the simple fact that these songs will linger long after this trend has passed.
