This mix CD by LEFTROOM’s MATT TOLFREY functions as something of a mission statement for the label, not only drawing on former glories, but previewing forthcoming Leftroom attractions. After a series of sampler 12”s that featuring on this comp, you’ll hear that the full mix CD still has plenty to offer beyond those advance 12”s. Like MARC ASHKEN’s ‘Cup Cake’, sounding not entirely unlike some of MATTHEW DEAR’s recent output under his FALSE moniker, leading into the kooky, micro-wonk of SKOOZBOT’s remix of ANDRE CROMM’s ‘Bodenturnen Dub’.
This tone of spectacularly tight, yet somehow off-kilter production is sustained throughout the compilation, sounding very much like a unified whole - even the work of a single artist - maintaining a sense of urgency and all round pace, albeit while taking in the requisite peaks and troughs that are so essential to the narrative flow of any self-respecting mix. Solid stuff throughout.
