ELECTRO

Their songs were made in a land far far away, long before fluoro rose from the depths yet the music basks comfortably in the neon glow and beyond… far beyond. THEATRE OF DISCO have arrived!

Theatre of Disco are a band that exist to perform. They’re brand of indie meets live electro was first unleashed in Europe after founding members James Brennan and Oli Chang (formerly of Ubin) met at a squat party in London. It didn’t take long till the boys had a set of songs together and were busting their live cherry together at Golden Gate in Berlin.

Shows at European clubs, theatres and house parties followed playing alongside the likes of Ratatat, Fantastic Plastic Machine and Hannah Holland with enough momentum building that on their way home to Australia they were booked for a tour of Japan which included gigs at mega venues like Club Yellow.

Bringing their tight style of filthy ghetto-pop back home to Sydney they instantly landed a spot at the notorious Bang Gang club night which lead to a month long residency at Club 77.

Currently based in Sydney the boys have been keeping busy with Oli writing music for film and TV, whilst James continues writing works for theatre as well as taking on a new role as a parole officer. Between keeping people out of prison, creating sounds for screen and recording their EP the boys have managed to play shows with Ed Banger starlet Uffie, Norway’s Datarock as well as locals Van She, Lost Valentinos and the Bagraiders.

This self-titled EP is their debut release and has been attracting attention from international labels months ahead of its official Australian release date. Featuring a number of the songs that the boys originally penned whilst travelling overseas as well as a couple of fresh cuts, it perfectly captures the unpredictable nature of a Theatre of Disco performance.

From the euphoric guitar and synth blasts of ‘Oke’ to the lyrical sleaze of ‘On The Train’, each track on this record takes in different influences then spits them out as electro-pop bombs, just in time for some dumb fun on the dancefloor.

With enough soaring synths and squelching basslines to power the biggest game of Pac Man in history, this EP may well be the sound of summer.
