Cat Power (aka Chan Marshall) releases her second album of cover songs, entitled ‘Jukebox’. The album features interpretations of songs originally made famous by Frank Sinatra, Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, Joni Mitchell, Billie Holiday, James Brown, Janis Joplin, The Highwaymen, Jessie Mae Hemphill and others.
Jukebox is recorded with Chan’s touring outfit, The Dirty Delta Blues band, (consisting of drummer Jim White from the Dirty Three, guitarist Judah Bauer of the Blues Explosion, keyboard player Gregg Foreman who has also worked with the Blues Explosion, and bassist Erik Paparazzi).
Guest include Spooner Oldham (Neil Young, Janis Joplin and other luminaries too numerous to mention), Larry McDonald (Toots & the Maytals, Taj Mahal), Teenie Hodges (Al Green, Memphis Rhythm Band), and Matt Sweeney (Chavez).
The album also features two Cat Power originals, a brand new track ‘Song For Bobby’ and a reworking of 1998’s ‘Metal Heart’.
The CD edition comes in two versions:
Standard jewel case with bonus track of Nick Cave’s song Breathless
Deluxe edition with bonus disk featuring five songs with silver-foil gatefold sleeve
LP edition is a double album housed in a deluxe silver-foil gatefold cover.
