Warp kick off 2008 by revealing one of their ace cards for the forthcoming year - new signing Born Ruffians. Prodigious and precocious, the Toronto based Born Ruffians consist of Luke Lalonde on vocals, 21, bassist Mitch DeRosier, 21, and drummer Steve Hamelin, 22. 'Red Yellow & Blue' is the name of their debut full length album, which will be available in March through Inertia.

For the Ruffians, the album's release comes after a period of sustained touring on the back of their acclaimed self-titled EP, with the likes of Hot Chip, Caribou, Akron/Family, Peter, Bjorn & John and the Hidden Cameras. Born Ruffians have already won approval amongst many fraternities, largely within the 'Skins' generation.

Already receiving rave reviews across the media spectrum, and being heralded by the Toronto Star as one of 'Ten to watch in 2008', Born Ruffians are closely observed not only in their hometown but across the North American vicinity where they are similarly regarded.

'Red, Yellow and Blue' was produced by Rusty Santos, the studio whizz behind Animal Collective and Panda Bear's most recent efforts. Influences of Pavement, the Pixies and all time heroes, The Strokes go some way to explaining their unusual signature sound.

"The nicest compliment we get at shows is when people say, it's really great pop music. You guys write really great pop songs, but I can't think of anybody else who really sounds like you right now."

On the one hand Red, Yellow & Blue exemplifies Born Ruffians' ostensible brand of joyful and infectious 'hootin and hollerin', but it also displays a heartening depth. With elevating, capricious syncopation and jostling rhythms running throughout, it undeniably reveals them as pedigree musicians.

Recent praise for Born Ruffians

NME 'Crawling from a far more splendid cauldron are Born Ruffians, whose ludicrously good 'This sentence will ruin/save your life' sound like the Pixies, as played by er, pixies.' RADAR PICKS

THE FLY 'Those lucky enough to catch the band live will agree that the Born Ruffians show is an enthralling and eye opening spectacle.'

STOOL PIGEON 'Deliciously difference and charming in its ragged exuberance'

SPIN.COM 'Generation Y's short attention span and hyperactivity is epitomized in the Born Ruffians. Their songs feel like three songs in one, with changes so abrupt, you need a neck brace' BAND OF THE DAY

POPMATTERS 'If this EP is any indication of what's coming on the full-length, then the Born Ruffians are about to take off'

Red Yellow & Blue will be available on Warp through Inertia 15th March.
