CIRKUS are: four people who’ve taken flight, a long trek from London to Stockholm, a group living together from one day to the next for the pleasure of creating music which borders on the indescribable: that’s cirKus. The cirKus story began when singer BURT FORD met KARMIL, a classical guitarist, turntablist and beat maker working from his bedroom studio in Camden Town, England. Before long, they were joined by LOLITA MOON (whose crystal-clear voice perfectly complemented Ford’s gravelly tones) & NENEH CHERRY.
‘Laylower’ is at the intersection of indie rock and electronic music. One is reminded of RADIOHEAD, ANTHONY & THE JOHNSONS and BURIAL amongst others.
The last year has seen cirKus sharing the stage with AIR, ABD AL MALIK, CAT POWER, SPANK ROCK and HOT CHIP. The stage shows have been universally accepted as something truly out of the ordinary and have taken them to pretty much every corner of the globe.
This release has two different versions. ‘Laylow’ (the original 13 track recording) & ‘Laylower’ (the same 13 songs completely re-recorded & re-produced in a style which capitalizes on the lessons and influences of a year plus of hard traveling. ‘Laylower’ is not a ‘live’ album it is more like “13 good friends revisited from a different perspective” says Ford.
