German film director DORIS DÖRRIE’s new movie ‘Kirschblüten’ (cherry blossoms) makes us experience Japanese culture in vivid detail and goes far beyond the predominating cliches of sushi and manga comics.
Insightful, varicoloured and profound as the movie comes the accompanying soundtrack. From cheerful pop music, classical and traditional music to elegiac songs full of nostalgia and longing desire, the majority of the selected tracks is performed by renowned Japanese artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Yoko Kanno and Pizzicato Five.
